NYAL MOSCODE 300 Power Amplifier





This is the legendary George Kaye designed MOSCODE 300 Tube Power Amplifier. As you may already be aware, this amplifier was the first of it's kind employing a tube front-end (6DJ8 & 6FQ7 x2) and a MOSFET output stage (150wpc into 8 ohms). It was Harvey Rosenberg's (New York Audio Labs) brainchild to bring the sound of an OTL amplifier to the masses by making an affordable amplifier capable of driving the most difficult and innefficient of loudspeakers.

Needless to say, this hybrid amplifier is a classic, not only for it's place in history, but for its sound and bulletproof operation. These amplifiers are known to be very robust, long lasting & problem free.

The MOSCODE amplifiers, due to their age and topology, are also ideal candidates for various modifications and upgrades. This particular MOSCODE has been professionally upgraded with 20000uf filter capacitors, HEXFRED & Ultra Fast diodes, MIT RTX film & foil capacitors, Dale RN60 non-magnetic metal film resistors througout the signal path, Kimber & Cardas internal wiring, and Vampyre OFC RCAs and binding posts. There is also an IEC line connector for your choice of high-end power cables, and extensive internal chassis & main board damping.

This amplifier will come with Amprex Bugule Boy 6DJ8s & Ei Elite 6FQ7s installed.






These upgrades brought about much more clarity, detail, and depth as well as practically eliminating the "electronic haze" that makes some audio components sound unnatural. This amplifier sounds much more refined than a stock unit, but if you want it taken to an even higher level then you can contact George Kaye or Stephen Sank (Chaplain Valley Speaker Company) for more extreme modifications.

This particular unit is electrically and operationally flawless, but it's cosmetic condition could not be considered "collector quality". The top cover was scratched and repainted by the previous owner with a flat black paint that is slightly different than the original finish, and the heatsinks have scratches and there are various other chips and scratches about the unit. Altogether, this has not faired too badly considering it's age - this is slightly more than normal wear and will be given a 6/10 rating as per audiogon. For what it's worth, these flaws cannot be easily seen from 6ft away. The photos here make the amp look much worse than it is.






Also, as with most MOSCODE 300s, this unit is sensitive to AC line offset and the transformer may hum depending on your electrical service. If you are sensitive to transformer hum (some folks are and some aren't) then you may want to consider trying the Ah! AC Offset Killer. I have considerably reduced the hum without AC conditioning by placing small sandbags (pre-packaged & color coordinated) on top of and under the amplifier. If you have a well ventilated cabinet then this may not be an issue at all (nor will the cosmetics, for that matter). Why am I mentioning this here? Because you deserve to know exactly what you're getting. I don't want suprises when purchasing used equipment, and I can't imagine that you would either.
