Short conference about cathode modulation which is a far better way than the usual grid modulation especially for triode power tubes like 300B or 6080WA etc.
The system is quite simple and leads to more linearity and output plus less heat in the tube.

THE RULES


We will compare horn + compression driver couples, above 600Hz. The bass enclosure ( "petite onken" bass reflex with altec lansing 414 ) will be provided, and will be the same for all horn/driver couples.
horns/drivers will be put on a horizontal 1 meter x 1 meter wood board. If needed, a base shall be provided by the participant.
An active crossover will apply the appropriate delay, level and phase for each horn/driver, but frequency, slope and type of filter be the same for all.
The bass and medium amplifier will be the same for all.
The driver impedance shall be about 8 ohm over 600Hz to 10KHz.
A minimum average sensibility of 100dB/1m/2.83V over 600Hz to 10KHz is required.
The shootout listening tests will be MONOPHONIC : there is no need to bring a pair of identical driver+horn, one is enough.
The interface is 2 female 4mm banana plug : Red and black. A positive voltage on the red terminal should move the voice coil toward the horn.
The horn/driver must be made available for the measurement on thursday evening.
