2017 Wrap Up!
We had an excellent second half of the year! We did something like $80k+ in sales just between July and September. It’s also been a crazy year… I don’t even know where to begin! We had one person down in Australia, afraid the Australian government was going to lock them up in a psych ward because they were afraid of and stricken ill by EMF. The individual lived in a car… so I could understand government assistance for housing and food, but they felt a padded room was in their future. Besides calling us every day for weeks on end, begging us for free product, they also wanted Peter or myself to sponsor them with an airline ticket and citizenship to the US with free housing included… it’s ok to ask, but… so anyway, I sent a free pair of Inserts and the calls stopped. Haven’t heard a peep since.
I had another one call from West Virginia at the beginning of the year, convinced the house was haunted and our RF Antenna was key to kicking the ghost to the curb… we do get those calls every so often during ghost hunting season, but it was a first for a winter month. I haven’t heard back from this person since March timeframe, but apparently 3 antennas did the trick.
We had our share of suicidal tendencies this year. The world is really fucked up at the moment, but you have to find your groove within it. The wonderful thing about life is that opposites attracted. Find someone that is a totally opposite of you and go off and enjoy life… the nonsense of “the perfect mate” doesn’t exist. People are supposed to fight, laugh, disagree, and find common interests… all of those things as a couple lead to a full life. Match.com contestants are nothing but a marketing fairytale. I can’t tell you how many people were bent out of shape after the election… seriously? Talk about a low self-esteem joke. Life is hard… things happen all the time that someone doesn’t agree with. I couldn’t stand the last one in office, but I wasn’t trolling the internet making up shit on social media to see what sticks… if you lost… tough shit. What do you want me to tell you? The two coasts can’t get their way all the time… every so often the fly-over states need a little help, too. I lost count early in the year on how many emails we received from women rattling suicidal suggestions because Donald Trump won the Presidency… I didn’t have the heart to tell them I was a Republican. But as we found out, Inserts and Pocket Grounds help for low self-esteem as well.
It boggles the mind!
Our military family grew larger this year. As a personal note: Jen and I support each and every one preparing, fighting, and coming home. The wonderful thing about the active and retired Armed Forces is that we’re all family and we take care of our own.
I had a holistic “doctor” at the beginning of the summer that was most certainly a threat to others. This individual, who was not a licensed medical professional… even though she played one on Facebook… was supposedly an “EMF expert”… except she didn’t know what EMF even meant! She understood EMF was short for “electromagnetic fields” but she didn’t really know what it was… Holy Shit! She thought WiFi and cell bullshit was the only EMF’s on the planet… I ripped into her - It’s the little things in life that you cherish… I had a ball. It’s one thing if you’re just a moron giving advice, but it’s another thing if you are taking someone’s money. She wanted to sell our products on her website, but after Jen did the homework she came back to me and said this broad is nuts, that ended that! I try to keep my distance from the nutty ones practicing medicine… this one only played a doctor on Facebook.
There are so many stories… I could just go on all day. And don’t get me started on the audio guys… there are two types of audio guys; the music lover and the component lover… and neither one mesh with the other one. Music lovers want to manipulate every single nuance of the musical spectrum to pull out the last .0001% of detail… until they blow something up. (LOL!) What they have a tendency to do is recite every single component, cable, and tweak inside their home, their neighbor’s home, and shit they are thinking about purchasing but don’t have the funds readily available. This information is always provided in a 3 chapter mini novel that I have to weed through and God-forbid I miss something! They’ll go over it again! 2 weeks and 15 hours of horseshit later they purchase something for $60 if I’m lucky… The component lover, on the other hand, is a fucking snob… an audiophile elitists… if there could be something so stupid (seriously?) over a piece of hardware. These guys are pricks… I hate dealing with them. I have this one guy that is a fan of everything that he reads in the audio forums… and he takes it as the gospel truth. I’ve been banned from several of the more popular forums because I have a brain, I use it, and I express my opinion (in no uncertain, no bullshit terms). Every time this guy pops up I pawn him off on Dave… this guy drives me nuts (not Dave). The last time he called he was confused about fuse directionality. A fuse is a pretty simple thing to understand – a little thicker solder joint at the input compared to the output – they want the filament to snap in half when a surge is present. Audiophiles have a tendency to flip the fuse around so the thicker solder joint is on the secondary/output side of the fuse holder – they think it sounds “better” but instead it opens up the component to every surge on the planet. Fuses are easy to read – 250v side is the input / the other end cap might or might not have anything stamped into it is the output. The question is, do you know the directionality of the circuit? This is where a multi-meter comes in handy and every single audiophile on the planet owns one (or should own one) but only a handful of them know how to use one. I thought I was going to lose my mind trying to explain how to check for directionality. Now, how hard is this? Switch the multi-meter over to sound, place the red probe on the IEC hot prong of the socket and the black probe over by the fuse holder – the side that beeps is the input side. Easy, right? 6 phone calls to me and 3 to Dave and he still didn’t get it. This guy supposedly works for Texas Instruments… you’d think he would know his way around a circuit board… you’d think?
The end of the year has been great! The Pocket Ground remains our number-one best seller… many of you purchased several for stocking stuffers (we did that, too!). We look forward to working with you all in 2018. 2018 will be about the Patch… stay tuned.
